Anthony J. Buckner, a dedicated father of two children, grew up in the inner city of Memphis, where he learned the value of hard work from a young age. His strong family upbringing instilled a sense of responsibility and determination that has guided him throughout his life.
As Chief Deputy of the largest sheriff's office in Tennessee, Anthony oversees approximately 2500 inmates and nearly 1500 employees. His commitment to upholding the principles of justice and public safety is unwavering, and he is known for his tireless efforts to positively impact society.
Anthony's impressive career in law enforcement began 20 years ago when he joined the Shelby County Sheriff's Office. Over the years, he has held various roles within the sheriff's office, including Fugitive, Patrol, Gang Unit, Narcotics, Crime Prevention, Patrol Sergeant, Criminal Courts Sergeant, Lieutenant in Internal Affairs, Captain in the Public Information Office, and Chief Inspector as Director of Training. In recognition of his outstanding leadership and dedication, Sheriff Floyd Bonner, Jr. appointed Anthony as Chief Deputy on July 25, 2023.
In addition to his extensive experience in the field, Anthony holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Bethel University. He is also a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy, further enhancing his skills and expertise in law enforcement.
